  • I decided to try scuba diving once on a trip to Mustique, thought it was fun, but other things made it quite dormant in my life. I decided to go to Bequia and pick it back up a little bit, and then I knew I needed to be certified. The following summer, I took the Open Water Diver certification course, and finally got my PADI Certification Card, thanks to my awesome instructor, Steve Giles, from Dive Bequia. I really like to go down and see the fish. I love diving, but fishing is one of my main passions as well. It is pretty cool to see how they actually live underwater, instead of pulling them onto the boat for a change. I try to dive most of the time when I am in the Caribbean over the holidays, and I plan to stop at Advanced Open Water Diver. My name is Adam, I love flying, boating, and fishing. Diving is a very fun activity, and I am glad I found this community.

    Moonhole

Cathy, our PADI Master Instructor, took us for an emergency surface drill, en route to our certification. We just decided to take a little dive around the reef, go a little deeper than we had before, almost to our goal of 60 feet. We did see some Lionfish down there, those ghastly creatures. Pretty early morning dive, I felt a little tired going down at first.

    Rock Fort

After a year hiatus, we decided to go diving with a good friend of ours and her dad. We took a 10 minute boat ride to Fort Duvernette (Rock Fort), the dive site. When we got down there, the current was a bit strong. We saw a lot of rock fish, and a lot of good reef down there. Our guide decided to take his spear down and handle some of those pesky lion - fish. We killed 3 big ones, bashed the brains out of another one, and speared one. This is not our first time diving in this location, but I couldn't log the other one because I forgot about it. Great dive overall, nice to get back into the flow.

    Rock Fort

After a short break, we decided to take another dive at Rock Fort. We would head SE just like the first time, but in the end it would be a loop right back under the boat and into the main harbor of our hotel, Young Island. It was a little bit of a current swimming back up, but we saw a lot of fish. The terrain had some dead coral and a lot of grass. My sister and nephew thought they saw something on the grass that looked like blood. But after that, we surfaced, took the boat into the beach, and got some lunch. Great dive, it was very cool seeing something that you always drive over in a yacht for the first time.

    Cotton House Reef

Just in vacation in Mustique, decided that we would go on our first dive with our new certification cards. Cotton House reef was the place. It was a fairly rainy day. The reef was pretty dead though, so not really any signs of marine life anywhere. Someday it may come back, but it is a pretty dead dive around there.
