  • I always wanted to scuba dive but living in Ohio years ago I wasn't much interested diving in lakes and pits. So when I retired in 2010 and I went down to my brothers in Davie Florida and got OW certified at Scuba School and Dive Center in Ft Lauderdale. Not long after got AOW + EAD. Both cert checkout dives were done on wrecks out of Pompano Dive Center Pompano Beach Florida and I was hooked on wreck diving from the start.

In 2013 we moved to Ft Myers Florida and ATM have 142 dives and 23 different wrecks logged. Including the USS Spiegel Grove 10X, USAF Vandenberg 8X, in 2010 USS Oriskany and 2015 USS Mohawk 36mi off Boca Grande Fl. Living in Ft Myers gives me quick access to the Florida Keys and the world class wreck diving there. In 2013 participated in and completed the Florida Keys Wreck Trek. In 2015 had the opportunity to travel and dive in Cuba. We spent 15 days on our own and seen 2/3rds of the island. Along with some great reef dives got to dive the Russian built Cuban Navy Destroyer PB 353 in Veradero Cuba. About 110 miles from the USAF Vandenberg in Key West.

But what has given me the most pride is giving back to our reefs as a Coral Restoration Diver. In 2014 I went down to Key Largo and took the 1 day training with the CRF folks there. I have the cert but what is important is being a volunteer diver for CRF. I have dove with them and worked on the reefs in Key Largo and this past January with CRFC in Curacao NA. I will be back to Bonaire this July and have planned a dive with the CRFB. There is nothing more satisfying for me than to do these dives to help the reefs. Below are links if you are interested in becoming a CRF volunteer diver.

In 2015 we bought a Interval International timeshare in Curacao that gives us opportunities to travel to the Caribbean and beyond. We live 15 mins from Ft Myers International (RSW), 3hrs from Miami (MIA) and Tampa International (TPA). We can be in any Caribbean Island in less than 3hrs direct from any of these airports. We have take trips to the Caribbean twice a year for the last 3 years. I'm retired and my wife is a school teacher with summers and Christmas time off.

If you have a trip in mind and looking for a dive buddy drop me a line and we can see if we can work it out. I'm always ready for a trip to the keys and can be in Key Largo in 3hrs. So if you want to do some world class wreck diving I can be packed and out the door in a couple hours.
