  • I started off slow with Scuba 15 years ago doing resort dives in Cayman or off a cruise ship. On my honeymoon, my wife and I did a couple and I couldn't have been happier that she liked it because I wanted to do more.

On our first anniversary, we traveled to Curacao to with both sets of in-laws and their 1-year anniversary gift to us was scuba certification. (were they that impressed we made 1 year??)

For the first 5 years of our marriage, we made an annual pilgrimage to somewhere in the Caribbean, (if by "somewhere" you understand it was either Cayman or Curacao), and logged close to 35 dives.

Then came our second child and getting away to dive became much harder. I made it to a couple places to dive, Key Largo, Puerto Rico, but we hadn't had a big dive vacation in a while.

In 2014, we were able to make it work and made our first trip back to Curacao in five years. We're only there for 3 days but we're making the most of it!! 7 dives in 3 days. I know we can do it!!

First Dive at Vaersenbaai. We heard it was good and it didn't disappoint. A bit of a rough entrance as you have to wade through a beach area with people on lounge chairs and people swimming. Not an easy path to the water.

    Snake Bay

Snake Bay -- Great dive. Tricky entrance (the back of my calves got really scratched when I backed into a rock). Saw EIGHT eels. 7 spotted, one green moray eel. Awesome reef!!

    Pierbaai

Another great night dive. We saw 2-3 octopi, (one of them may have been a repeat), big crabs, small crabs, medium crabs, big lobsters, small lobsters, lots of sleeping fish, scorpion fish, lion fish, striped angels, spotted drums, trunk fish, puffer fish, blue tangs, big sea urchins.

    Vaersen Bay

Boat dive with Go West Divers in Westpunt. Rough one. Once we rounded the corner to the dive spot, the water got really choppy. Visibility was pretty poor, likely because of the chop. Got some decent photos but nothing terribly new. When we ascended the waves were really crashing and Leanne was having a terrible time and doing pretty poorly. We were dealing with 5-6 foot swells and really struggled to get back in the boat. Arjen and Julian were extremely helpful snd gracious as the dealt with Leanne's frustrations. They, and all the other divers, were very understanding when Leanne requested to go back to dock and get off the boat.
