Ice diving is actually comfortable - ask Stig !

por Ksso el 13 de noviembre de 2012

Ice diving is feared by many divers - but let's face it : with a proper dry suit, a mouthpiece and a little training it's really no big deal. The tough side is when u need to cut the ice with a manual soar and prep the site for the dive (did that under heavy storm - beautiful memories - still remember how the arms and feet hurt after spending 2hrs getting the site prepped).

Anyways, you know what's more extreme than ice diving ?

Freediving naked in an iced like.

Stig Åvall Severinsen did it and set the world guiness record for "Longest swim under ice - breath held".

Although it was in 2010 I stumbled onto the video today and though it was totally worth a share!

Missing species in the database ? There's a button for that !

por Ksso el 12 de noviembre de 2012

A couple users have been complaining about some species missing in our database. We heard you and added a button for that! At the bottom of the species picker page, you will find an "Add missing species" yellow button that will guide you into adding a species to the database.

The server will add the species, check out the whole hierarchy and reindex the whole species table, so the process may take about one or two minute but when it's done the new species can be immediately added to your logbook !

Diveboard updates: Picture gallery, speedy explore and feed, improved search

por Ksso el 17 de septiembre de 2012

We made quite a few updates last week, that we "forgot" to advertise. You may have seen them already but in case you havent, here's what you missed:Full speed aheadThe activity feed and explore had been a real performance challenge, and now they are faster than ever. Pages load in under 0.2 secs and dragging the explore map is super-smooth. Although we did not add functionalities, we did change the algorithm to select the shown spots on the map and now it's more filled than ever.

Picture galleryFor some time now we've been manually selecting pictures that rocks uploaded by divers on Diveboard. We now built a beautiful way to browse through them pinterest-style with the new gallery page. ...

Diveboard feature updates : dive shop pages and new layout

por Ksso el 17 de julio de 2012

This update has been pending for more than we'd have liked it to ... but it's a major rework and hence updating the tests took a long while. Anyways, it's finally there, putting us back in our weekly update schedule! This week we have :Dive shop pagesThey're like your personal logbook, only for dive shops. Each dive shop owner can claim their page on diveboard (~5000 have already been created) and customise it with a proper description and picture... and "typical" dives they are doing. The idea here is that dive shops will provide "templates" of the dive with a list of the common species you can encounter, maybe some pictures and notes. Users will be able in the near future to import...

Make your own robotic submarine

por Ksso el 30 de mayo de 2012

Brainchild of  Eric Stackpole, the OpenROV is an open-source platform for underwater robotic exploration. Built out of cheap parts, this is the first below-1000$ submarine - but without any compromise. Rated for 100m (330ft), featuring an HD camera and a 1.5hrs of running time thanks to its 8 C batteries, tethered to the surface through a 10Mb link, this tiny robot opens up plenty cool new perspectives for spending extra down-time once you've emptied your tank! Wether you want to use it to map a complex cave, or simply follow a fish to its nest or snag pictures of fellow scuba divers, the OpenROV is an incredible tool that's actually affordable ! Kits should be available later this summer...
